I had litle to none experience in 3D before this semester and found myself struggling in the beginning to produce any real and good enough pictures, but I feel my end results are better than I expected and I really learned alot this semester.
It was when I really need to get a grip of the program when it kicked in and I started modeling my original ideas of the pictures I wanted to make and stop doing tutorials.
I also learned that I needed to start making and modeling my own pictures alot sooner instead of trying to learn the program doing something other people had already done.
Im overall very satisfied with my semester and look forward to start learning 3D animation on next semester. It will my a good challange to rise up to and I'm really up for it after learning so much this first semester in 3D modeling.

All done with the thrird and final picture
This picture demanded the most work of them all, making the fur work and look real was a real battle but in the end I am very satisfied with the final look of the picture, added some decoration on the tree to give it a more realistic look and I feel the shadows look really nice on this one.

December picture
So I've started working on my December picture and decided to make a cheesy christmas tree and some gifts and this is my progress so far
Made a small livingroom corner in wich my tree will stand in. Did this in a very simple way, created three planes and arranged them like this and applied materials to them to look like a nice litle corner
Here I've begun to add to the picture a bit more
The gifts are boxes that I shaped a litle bit to make them look more real, and added some home made gift wrap material to them, to finish off I put a Torus Knot on top of them with the same material to give them a lot better look.
Here is the picture after I gave it some shadows and lightning. Also begun working on the tree, created it using an helix and a circle and shaped it up real nicely to give it that christmas tree look, only finishing touched left now with most of the modeling already done. Need to add fur to the tree and maby a litle decoration.

Here is my finished January picture
Added a plane underneath it to make it look like it was standing on a wooden table. The picture also has shadows now and some lettering in the cake to give it the final touch.
Im happy with the end result in this picture, I didnt think it would turn out to be any good since I'm not a good baker (joke) but I'm happy with how the picture turned out.

January progress
So for January I decided to make a birthday cake because its my birthday month. I begun to make the plate for the cake

So here is my cake after I put some chocolate like material on it and added a litle decoration to the bottom of it.

Here is my first finished picture
As u can see I added some trees for the background and put some shadows into the picture for the final touches and I'm pretty satisfied with this picture.
Always fun to play around with the shadows and I really like the outcome of them in the final version.

Here is my progress on my april picture
I began to model the post's for the goal and then put a box inside of it. Next I emty'd out the box leaving only the sides that I wanted for the net and applyed a wire material to the sides and cleaned it up a litle bit.
My next steps where to use the slice plance for the plane in the picture that represents the grass. I cut out some lines to emulate the lines in a foolball pitch and apply'd a material map for the plane.
Thats my progress so far, not much left now, have to put some shadows on it and finish up the background for the final picture.

Final Project
Well our final project for this semester is to create three images based on chosen months in our research boards using 3D Max of course.
My chosen months were April, December and January and I will post on my progress with my pictures and ideas soon.
I am really looking forward for this task and creating something new and original, I feel this is a good challange for me and a good way to utilize the skills I have learnd in class this semester.

Research Boards
So I chose December, January and Arpil as my months for the research board..
December
What's not to like about December, it's Christmas time! Everybody love's the Christmas holidays.. spending time with your family, eating delicious food, laying on the sofa and watching NFL, going to Christmas party's to meet your relatives and just enjoying the whole experience of Christmas. In Iceland the whole mood changes.. the capital transfers completly, all the mall's are full of people in a hurry, downtown is full of people enjoying the Christmas spirit and having hot coco and the atmosphere of it all is pleasant.
And it's not proper Christmas without some big Christmas snow, I think everbody in Iceland love's it when it snow's on Christmas day!
January

Everybody buy's fireworks in Iceland to blow up at new year's eve, it's even become a tourist attraction, the whole capital light's up with fireworks and new year party's everywhere go looooong into the night so for many people the start the new year with a hangover :)
But every new year you get that feeling, that fresh beginning feeling.. what will you experience this year?
In January the school is also beginning again, my birthday is in January and you get somewhat of a feeling the worst part of winter is over and you start to look forward for the summer time, atleast me!

In April your summer mood is in it's prime, you are finishing school, you are planning what you want to do this summer, you are looking forward for all the football, camping trips, festivals, sunshine and beerdrinking with your friends and all of that that follows the summer! What more can you say, it's a wonderful month! Everybody's outside, enjoying life and laughing, having a good time and BBQ's in the evening with friends and family! It's awesome.

Second week
My first session in 3D modeling was in week two. Our class is at 9 o'clock on Monday's for three hours which in my opinion is not enough so I think I'm gonna be spending a fair amount of time at home doing tutorials and getting to know the 3D studio max program better.
I've got a good feeling about this module, never studied 3D before but way back I did play around a litle with the 3DMax program but since then the program has changed alooot.
I´ve studied on Auto Cad which is also a product of Autodesk back in Iceland in Technical Drawing but that was also a few years ago.
So.. class last monday was fun, did some interesting stuff with in 3DMax, made a very good looking apple and made some cheese using a simple feature in the program but the the program is HUGE and has endless possibilities so im really looking forward to diving into it because next semester we will also be studying 3D Character Animation.
I've still have to post my research board with the three months and a mood board and will be doing that later tonight because they're not finished when I'm writing this :)

First week
Our first week assignment was to pick a favorite month and blog about it and then make a research board.
My favorite month is January. For me the reasons behind that choice is because it signalls a new year, a fresh start and my birthday. In my mind, after my birthday, winter is starting to fade away and summer is getting nearer and nearer.
I will post a reasearch board here with three months done in photoshop, well as soon as I've finished it :)

Favorite cartoon character
Havent really got a favorite cartoon charater but if I had to choose one is probably would be Kenny from South Park. Well its not because he dies in almost every episode but because when he speaks you cant hear what hes saying but almost everybody understands him :)
